Green Bean
Casserole
3 pkg French
style green beans
1 can sliced water chestnuts
1 jar whole mushrooms
1/4 to 1/2 cup finely chopped onions
1/4 flour
2 cups 1/2 & 1/2
1 cup milk
1/2 teaspoon pepper
1
teaspoon salt
1/2 teaspoon
Tabasco sauce
2 teaspoons soy sauce
1 cup grated sharp cheese
1 cube butter/margarine
Cook
beans until done and drain.
In a double boiler melt butter, add chopped onions, mushrooms and cook
for about 2 - 3 minutes. Add flour (or more if needed) and cook
for a minute or two. Add the 1/2 & 1/2 and milk, stir until
thick. Add pepper,
salt, Tabasco sauce, soy sauce, salt, water chestnuts and cheese.
Add cream sauce to drained beans and mix well, transfer to
casserole dish and bake at 375 for 20 minutes. Makes about 2
quarts.
